  • Why Should Non-Catholics Be Evangelized? January 17, 2025
When I was a child in the 1950’s, we wanted to convert the world. Kids would say “I want to go to China” or “I want to go to the Middle East.” That missionary fervor is gone now. With these words, an old priest I knew expressed his dismay at the lost confidence in the […]

Precious in God’s Eyes

Every person is precious in God’s eyes. He created each one and in Isaiah 43:1-5, he says, “But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.  When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.  I give Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in exchange for you.  Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, people in exchange for your life.  Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you.”

First he says he created us, he redeemed us, then he will be with us, he will protect us, he loves us, we are not to fear, he will gather us and bring us back.  Later in verse 10, “You are my witnesses,” says the LORD,”and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.” God wants us to know him intimately, to really believe with understanding of who he really is.  That amazes me that God wants all of this for me and for you.  Yet, he says we are his witnesses, meaning we have seen and known, so we can tell others.

There are so many amazing stories out there.  There is a movie “Walk Ride Rodeo” about a young woman who was given a natural gift to ride horses.  She was in a terrible accident that made her look at the decisions she made each day.  Having broken her spine, most thought she would never ride again.  She questioned why God gave her this gift, yet allowed this accident.  She went on to not only ride, but compete in the American, which is really something.  She realized from what she experienced, that she had to make decisions to get into the game and give it her all.  She broke her own record at that competition and found that she did not have to fear but give everything to reach her goal.  God wanted to show the world that he was working in her life, even in this tragedy blessing the gift he had bestowed.  Through her witness she touched many lives.

We too are called to run the race giving our all until we are called home.  God gave his all by Jesus coming and dying for all of humanity to redeem us.  If he had not made the decision everyday to go all the way to the cross, we would not be able to gain heaven and it would be a much darker world to live in.  No matter what this life throws at us, God is with us to see us make it home.  He is on our side and he will protect us and care for us.  Pray each day to give your all to God and make decisions leading you toward heaven. God’s love for you, his care for you, his encouragement is to not fear, but reach for the finish line.  God loves you so deeply, he will do his part to help everyone gain heaven.  May we be witnesses to this great love!
