Abundant Grace
All of us are sinners and in this Easter season, we are reminded of the divine mercy of God, who came to redeem us. Recently I was praying before the blessed sacrament and heard that still small voice speak to me about areas of my life that need to be surrendered. God wants us to live freely before him. As I prayed, I was convicted of what God was telling me, so off the next day, I went to the sacrament of reconciliation. There as I surrendered another area of my life, the priest spoke of God’s divine mercy telling me that even hearing him speak this to me, was another grace, because he wants us to be free.
He told me that God wants nothing more than for us to be reconciled and to grow in his grace and the knowledge of his love for us. After confessing my sins to God, he gave me absolution. We read in many places in scripture that this is what God wants of us. In the 5th chapter of James we read about confession, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful.” This is the same part of scripture where the church speaks about the sacrament of anointing of the sick. Jesus said those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. He was speaking of sinners.
Once we confess our sins, we are called to then turn and go in a new direction allowing God to correct the course of our life toward the Father and eternal life that awaits those who obey the Lord. May you hear his voice calling out to you to come and be reconciled and live in the freedom he desires for you. Pray for God’s Holy Spirit to come and fill your life with his life today.
